Giant red crowned woodpecker’s bug interest seems evident as he hangs by clawed feet perched high up ready to peck out any insects on utility pole.

Perhaps, it spotted some wood-boring beetle larvae on pole or more likely carpenter ants which are more numerous and create tunneled colonies in trees.

Early last week I heard a familiar loud unique crazy piercing staccato sound emanating somewhere nearby my backyard and while trying to discern which bird was making it I saw a very large bird suddenly fly by and land on the Hydro Quebec utility pole.

Realizing what I just saw I scrambled for my digital camera to make a photograph before it flew off off fortunately I was quick enough however, I was limited to what I could capture.

The Pileated Woodpecker is a large elusive North American bird slightly larger than common crows, called “pileated” taken from Latin word pileatus meaning capped referring to its prominent red crest.

This is my contribution for WP single word prompt:”INTEREST”.
