Object of denial during this time of year, sometimes rich, dark, delicious, chocolate cake covered with tangy lemon butter-cream icing and lemon custard cream center combined with some creamy butter-pecan ice cream is temptation just too hard to resist.
Presently, Jewish members of our multicultural, politically imposed secular society are celebrating Passover while Christians Easter, yet both religions require some fasting and denial in preparation to their holy day, at least for a brief time, stuff most of us like and enjoy eating and drinking.
Perhaps, another good reason to abstain from enjoying our cake and ice cream may involve your diet maybe, you are trying to lose or maintain a certain weight to remain healthy.
Then again, it may be that you don’t like cake or ice cream or the type and flavors depicted and prefer eating fruit or even beet borscht soup because high calorie desserts are something you abhor or are not accustomed due to your background.
Denial is very important for our spiritual well-being because we are after all, mortal and everything ends in a very short time although this is hard to believe especially if our circumstances are better than everybody else around us never-the-less, we must be mindful everything is truly only temporary.
I have selected a number of quotes about denial that you may like:
“Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.”
“Have you found honey? Eat only what you need, That you not have it in excess and vomit it.”
“So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh– for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”
Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
This my contribution for WP single word prompt:”DENIAL”.
