Although not the most aromatic amongst common flowers during the summer the Peonies are native to Asia, Europe and Western North America.
Apparently, there are a several species some say over 30 known species however, nobody even the scientists are sure of the exact number of varieties and how to really distinguish every single type.
These flowers in addition to giving a very pleasant fragrance are chock full of interesting compounds and ingredients some known beneficial to us.
According to one source there are almost 300 compounds already extracted including flavonoids, tannins, phenols, steroids which may play roles as antioxidants and antipathogents that can help our immune, nervous, and cardiovascular systems ward off sickness.
Insects also love Peonies because of their abundance of nectar that forms on the outside of the large flower buds therefore, during the summer you can see much activity by ants, bees, and wasps which also helps propagate the plant’s own growth.
This my contribution for WP single word prompt:”AROMATIC”.
