Mary had a hard slog getting out of the fast-flowing Saint Lawrence River over large slippery rocks and seaweeds, unto shore.

It was a hard slog for Mallard Mary getting out of the fast-flowing Saint Lawrence River then up and unto those large, sometimes seaweed covered, slippery, rocks lining the outer edges of the shore to get to dry land.

It was late August and after paddling around with her fellow duck buddies offshore and randomly poking her head under the water to catch some food Mary spotted another source of nourishment, humans at the water’s edge and decided it was worth investigating.

She remembered well those earlier, carefree days in the summer, at Montreal’s West island Centennial Park, the wonderful time gorging herself on all those free bread crumbs, popcorn, cookie pieces, and Cheerios breakfast cereal.

Despite municipal signs warning humans not to do it, some humans illegally continued to feed her and the rest of her motley flock ahhh..yes, those were the good times perhaps, those humans ashore have more goodies for us hmm?

This my contribution for WP single word prompt:”SLOG”.
